Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP, received bail from the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur, UP, in a defamation case related to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The case dates back to 2018 when Gandhi allegedly made derogatory remarks against Shah during a public event in Karnataka. Gandhi's appearance in court comes amidst ongoing political tensions, with the Congress leader's visit to Amethi scheduled for today.

The defamation case against Gandhi was filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra, accusing him of labeling Shah as a 'killer' during a rally in Bengaluru amid the Karnataka Assembly elections. Mishra asserted that such remarks were defamatory and unjust, prompting legal action. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh confirmed Gandhi's summons to the UP District Court in Sultanpur for February 20, marking a significant development in the ongoing legal battle.
